The Acropolis, Delphi archaeological site, the volcanic crater, and hot springs at Nea Kameni and of course Santorini are once again discoverable. The situation is very fluid so check with our Halal Travel Experts before deciding to travel to Greece though.

Athens International Airport will welcome limited flights from abroad as of June 1, 2020.


From June 1 – 14, 2020, as per EU policy, all nationals arriving in Greece will be obliged to undertake a coronavirus test and stay at a designated hotel for 7 days if tests are negative and 14 days if positive. Thessaloniki International Airport will also start operating as of June 15, 2020. Starting from June 15 – 30, 2020, passengers from 29 countries will be subject to random tests but all others will be subjected to testing and quarantine. The 29 countries are as follows:


However, as of July 1st, 2020, all Greek airports that can handle international traffic will allow fights from abroad.


International arrivals by sea will also be allowed. Traveling by land will be allowed for tourists from Albania, Bulgaria and North Macedonia. Random checks may still be conducted.

Face masks:

You need to have a face mask upon entering the airport, at the airport, during boarding and throughout the flight. However, you may be asked to temporarily remove the mask for security and identification purposes. Staff will monitor the use of masks.


Social distancing:

Try to maintain a distance of 1.5 meters at all times.

Announcements, banners, and signage will provide reminders for social distancing.

Seating at the airport has been rearranged to allow for social distancing.

Make sure to leave a vacant seat between two seated passengers except for families traveling together.

Airport staff will monitor the implementation of social distancing.


Hygiene measures: are as follows:

High touch surfaces will tend to be cleaned and sanitized regularly.

Sanitizer dispensers are located in over 300 spots throughout the airport.

Panels are used for ticket desks and information counters.

Airport employees will use masks, gloves and sanitizing liquids.

Special needs passengers will have access to wheelchairs and Ambulifts that have been cleaned and disinfected before and after every use.

Public announcements, airport screens and other signage will offer reminders about the hygiene measures that are in place.


Air conditioning:

Special filters have been installed and the circulation of air will be in a top-down cycle to ensure fresh air throughout the airport facility.
